Sometimes a hobby is about one’s own time and space – and often it can take a lot of time to stay on a journey to perfection – if that’s what you want.
Perfection isn’t required for what I’m undertaking soon. While we all need our “switch-off” time, it can be nice too to get switched on to help others in that time. Right now, I’m really looking forward to the next bank holiday weekend. As one of a group of 14 cyclists who recently formed a club, I’ll be travelling from Mizen Head to Malin Head over four days from June 2nd to 5th to raise money for two excellent local causes. Milford Care Centre (MCC) will be the majority beneficiary as it expands it hospice care services through a major capital development programme. MCC is the provider of hospice care in the mid-west region, in both residential and home-care settings.
As several of the 14 are also involved with one of our local clubs, Monaleen GAA Club, it will as the junior partner, benefit too from our fundraising, as it expands it facilities. The club numbers over 700 members and welcomes children from 6 years upwards.
It is great to give back and be healthy enough to do it. Always make time to do good!
