I put pen to paper back in May and wrote about bank holiday weekends. I described how I would be spending the next one – June – doing a 4-day cycle from Mizen to Malin to raise funds for two deserving local causes.
It was a great event and a great way to see our beautiful country as we took in the Caha Pass and Moll’s Gap, stone walls in Clare and Galway,
Well, I’m delighted to say that we closed the book on this last night when we handed over the funds raised to our beneficiaries. Monaleen GAA Club received €4,000 for its development fund while Milford Care Centre received €23,326.
All 14 of us who undertook the cycle were stunned by the level of support that we received. Ireland remains a giving country where people put their hands in the pockets for deserving causes with a smile and good wishes. No matter how things change in a shrinking world, I hope that this sense of charity will always be with us.
Míle buíochas do gach duine !
