Based in the south-east of Ireland, our client is a highly innovative and successful player in the international medical devices sector.  We are currently assisting them with the appointment of an Senior Operations Manager.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the new appointee will lead a team of professional staff in managing high-volume assembly operations in an FDA regulated site.  They will work closely with fellow leadership team members in developing value streams to optimise process flows and lean manufacturing.  Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Participate effectively as part of the leadership team at the site, understanding business imperatives and delivering customer expectations as efficiently as possible.  Communicate clearly understood metrics for the assembly operations with respect to output, process efficiency, labour utilisation, failure rates, etc.
  • Leverage the investment in lean knowledge in the company to oversee improvement interventions in the value streams to enhance the customer experience while achieving cost improvements.
  • Bring to bear a mindset focused on continuous evaluation and improvement of the manufacturing processes in order to enhance quality, efficiencies and delivery to customers.
  • Create and maintain a culture of total quality and continuous improvement programmes throughout a demanding manufacturing operation.  Work closely with the Quality and Engineering functions to eliminate recurring reasons for non-conformance of product
  • Develop a philosophy of change management through maintaining flexibility, performance management programmes, staff training and development/succession planning.
  • As a member of the Site Leadership Team, actively contribute to long term strategy setting (3-5 year timeframe) and implementation through supporting annual goals.

Candidates will be educated to a minimum of degree level in a Engineering or Science function and have a minimum of 15 years career experience.  Additional qualifications at Masters Level are desired.  They will have a proven ability to manage and develop people and will have previously managed a significant manufacturing function with additional technical and/or business skills acquired through time spent in another discipline such as Supply Chain, Quality or Engineering.

They will have the breadth of experience to manage the multidisciplinary nature of the position; not just capable of managing existing business levels, but also having the vision to conceptualize and deliver change, successfully integrating new products and processes in a highly regulated environment.
