Based in the west of Ireland, our client is a highly innovative and successful subsidiary of a global food and beverage company. We have been retained to manage the appointment of a Head of Engineering.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the new appointee will lead a team of six direct reports and an overall group of over 50 staff supporting maintenance, capital projects, process, NPI and automation in a regulated environment. They will work closely with fellow leadership team members in shaping and delivering strategies required to fulfil demand more efficiently and respond to changing product mixes. Some key responsibilities will include:
Participate effectively as part of the leadership team at the site, understanding business imperatives and delivering customer expectations as efficiently as possible.
Leverage the investment in automation across the supply network to continually improve production processes and cycle times.
Bring to bear a mindset focused on continuous evaluation and improvement of the manufacturing processes in order to enhance quality, efficiencies and delivery to customers.
Create and maintain a culture of total quality and continuous improvement programmes throughout a demanding manufacturing operation. Lead an Engineering function which works closely with the Operations and Quality functions to eliminate recurring reasons for non-conformance of product.
Provide expertise to the Commercial and Operations functions to support NPI programmes.
Develop a philosophy of change management through maintaining flexibility, performance management programmes, staff training and development/succession planning.
As a member of the Site Leadership Team, actively contribute to long term strategy setting (3-5 year timeframe) and implementation through supporting annual goals.
Candidates will be educated to a minimum of degree level in a Engineering with a preference for Chemical or Mechanical engineering. They will have a minimum of 15 years career experience with at least 5 years leading a technical function, or leading a substantial unit of same in a large-scale setting. They will have a proven ability to manage and develop people and will have previously demonstrated expertise and knowledge in automation.
They will have the breadth of experience to manage the multi-faceted nature of the position; not just capable of managing existing service levels to the business, but also having the vision to conceptualize and deliver change, successfully integrating new products and processes in a regulated environment.
They will be an effective communicator, comfortable in participating above site level and representing the Irish business effectively.
