Director of Technical Operations

Based in Munster, our client operates in the life sciences sector serving both commercial and development level requirements.  With ambitious targets and planned introduction of additional finished products they are now seeking a Director of Technical Operations.  This position has responsibility for developing and executing strategies on process development, technology transfer, scale-up, as well as providing technical support for all commercial products manufactured at the client company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring successful transfer of new products from R&D into commercial manufacturing.
  • Process optimization activities for IMP (Investigational Medicinal Licences) and marketed products.
  • Technical /Operations leadership of  transfer and commercial manufacturing activities/operations.
  • Technical / Operations ownership and/or support of transfer /manufacturing  related deviations, change control and CAPA.
  • Strategy development and execution leadership such as NPI operations and transfer strategy and Commercial site operations strategy, in addition to input /support on Regulatory and R&D development strategies.
  • Apply innovative manufacturing technology and quality-by-design principles and execute on key strategic operations projects to achieve business objectives.
  • Work closely with Business Development, Research & Development, Manufacturing, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance teams.
  • Foster effective cross-functional working relationships with internal and external team members.


Candidates will have a primary degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent; ideally, they will also have additional post-graduate qualifications e.g.  MSc. is desirable.

They will have a proven ability to manage and develop people and will have previously managed a Technical Services / operations / engineering function in pharmaceuticals – a minimum of 12 years career experience, with 5 or more at managerial level.

They will have a strong appreciation of the quality assurance requirements of the site and an attitude that underscores an understanding of its obligations to regulatory agencies.

They will have strong, clear and effective leadership with a continuous improvement mindset; clearly possesses the credibility to implement change programmes.

They will be comfortable in operating and contributing as part of a cross functional leadership team and engage positively at a corporate and site level.

They will have the breadth of experience to manage the growth of the business, integrating new products into manufacturing plans.  This will require excellent project management skills and the ability to deal positively with staff across many technical specialisms, and from a variety of corporate locations.
